A sweet delight

Water is incredibly important and has all sorts of health benefits. I love water, but sometimes just need a little somethin' sweet and tasty... I have the perfect combination! First off, we have about 6 Nalgene bottles at our house, that way there is always a clean bottle ready to go. They are 32 ounce bottles that will never crack, leak, etc. They are awesome. We get the wide mouth type and then buy a mouth guard for super easy drinking, even while driving.

We have a recent addiction, the 'On the Go' Crystal Light packets. However, we use ONE packet with a FULL 32 ounce Nalgene and it is PERFECT! It's still refreshing like water, but has that hint of flavor that is so tasty! My FAVORITES are the raspberry lemonade and the orange flavor. YUM!
So how much water should we drink everyday? We have all heard the generic answer of 8, 8 ounces glasses a day, but we are all different sizes! I found an easy equation that will give you the perfect amount for you... take your weight, divide it in half and that is what you should drink in ounces. ie, someone weighing 150 pounds-divided in half, 75- you need at least 75 ounces a day. Simple, huh? With a 32 ounce Nalgene it is so easy! I keep one on my desk at school and generally have one near by at home.
.
Dehydration is a huge problem in the U.S., especially with so much soda consumption. It is usually to blame for excessive fatigue, headaches, and a whole bunch of other icky things.
.
Keep yourself hydrated and enjoy the taste while your at it!
.
It's perfect!

It's been a while since we've updated this site. I know we are all busy, but swimsuit season is knock at the door and we wanna be ready!! Right?? Right!! I need your motivation!

I am sent a weekly article about health, exercise, nutrition, etc. I thought this was interesting... slightly depressing, but still hopeful! (smile) The truth is, if we want a good lookin' bum, we gotta work our butt off... literally! Check out this article

My trick

OK, it's not a secret that I love sugar. Not a little bit. I LOVE sugar. And the cakier and richer the better for me. It's my drug of choice.

Knowing that I'm a pre-diabetic and that I have to watch myself --(On a funny note: I had an Asian doctor say to me, in regards to this, once, "When you walk into Wah-Mart, dose sings on the right (meaning the bakery)...they are not for you!" I still laugh at that)-- I have to find certain tricks to stop the cravings.

One thing, surprisingly, that works for me is GUM. If I keep gum in my kitchen and eat it right after a meal, or even when I'm preparing a meal (so I don't pick at it), it helps me more than you think a little thing like that would. I now buy it in bulk. It's an obnoxious habit if you chew like a cow, but it's better than looking like one.

Try it - tell me what you think!

Spring Cleaning

10 Spring Cleaning Workouts
By Cecilia H. Lee
Tulips and daffodils are blooming. Butterflies and birds are flying under sunny skies. It's springtime! What better way to chase away the winter blues than to get your blood pumping by doing a bit of spring cleaning. A recent British study showed that the Brits burn over 50,000 calories a year (which adds up to almost 15 pounds of fat) just by cleaning their homes. So, get out that vacuum and get cleaning! Here is a list of the top 10 highest calorie-burning chores.

Brain Power

(This is an e-mail I received this week. Pretty Interesting!)

Like your poached egg and whole-wheat toast in the morning? Your brain might enjoy it, too.

Eating selenium-rich foods -- like eggs -- could help keep your memory sharp and your brain speed on high as you age.

Your Brain on Selenium: In rural China, researchers found that elderly people who got at least the U.S. recommended daily value of selenium (about 55 micrograms per day) had cognitive test scores that put them in a league with people 10 years younger.

Super Sources: You can get your daily dose of selenium by eating whole-wheat bread (10 micrograms per slice), eggs (14 micrograms per egg), tuna (63 micrograms per 3-ounces), Brazil nuts (270 micrograms per half ounce), and many other foods. In other words, you don't have to go overboard with eggs -- and probably shouldn't -- to get your fill.

Much has fallen by the wayside due to the hustle and bustle of today's busy world. Breakfast stopped making an appearance a long time ago. Bring it back -- for real -- with two slices of whole-wheat toast and a perfectly poached egg (34 milligrams of selenium, total, right there) that's ready in 3 minutes. It's ready before you can say, "I don't have time for . . ."

Week 2

Well girls,

Week #1's goals were to exercise 5 days for 30 minutes and to start taking a multi-vitamin. How'd we do? Let me know.

Week #2.....Let's keep the same excercise goal. Got that?? 5 days for 30 minutes. As far as our nutritional goals.....How about we start our day with at least 5 grams of fiber. That should help our week go more smoothly. Ü

Good Luck to you all. I know we can do it!

General Health

I'm so excited you started this, Lynell! I'm not sure how much walking I will be able to do with a pulled groin muscle (I get them with every pregnancy, but already?? geez!). Jill and I challenged each other to walk more than the other, so the game's already on for me, LOL! I just wanted to share this awesome info on general health, taken from a book I've ordered called Health Through God's Pharmacy: http://myiwc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=28061 This is the kind of stuff I have been learning about lately, along with the vaccine info. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did! And because I'm extra-aware of it now, TAKE YOUR DAILY VITAMINS! =)
